Quest to make money in the Adult Business

Post 4 - Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

If we are going into the business of making money on the internet by making websites then we need to know about Search Engines (SEs). It is not wise to ignore this huge traffic potential. Search engine traffic to your sites is better than any form of traffic because it brings surfers that are searching for terms that appear on your site. This means your site will have what the surfer is looking for. If your advertising matches your content you will be advertising what they are looking for too meaning more potentail money from advertisers. Search Engines are so good it goes as far as saying that you would rather have 1000 surfers coming to your site from a search engine than 10,000 surfers from a TGP.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) simply refers to making your site in such a way so that your site will appear higher in Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) and you will receive more traffic from SEs.

SEO can be split into two main categories:
1. On Site Optimization
2. Off Site Optimization

1 On Site Optimization

This is basically the content you have on your site. If you are making a site about Bikini Porn for example then you want to make sure you use words in your site that relate to what a surfer will search for.

Keywords - It is important to choose the correct keywords for your site. You want to choose phrases that will bring you targeted traffic and in high numbers but you dont want to choose terms that are very competitive so that your site will be completely lost behind the bigger players. I use this Keyword Tool to help choose keywords. But remember these results are not all that accurate, but use it as a guideline. Also look in google and yahoo to see what your competition is and how big it is. A good way to quickly test the size of a site is to use Url Trends.

A good method when building up a site is to target a more competitive (and generally shorter term) on the main pages and move on to less competitve terms (that are related your main term) as you build more pages within your site so that each page targets something new. Eventually you will have lots of pages with their own keyword focused content and SEs love it. So for example lets say on our main page we target Bikini Porn, then on our major internal pages we might target bikini sex, girls in bikinis, bikini babes, bikini girls, then on our minor internal pages we might target sexy girls in bikinis, bikini babes on the beach, bikini babes getting fucked, bikini girls with big breasts and so on. Mispellings are also often less competitive so you should think about optimizing pages for mis-spelled keywords too.

Meta and Title Tags - These are contained in the <head> part of your sites html (not directly visible to a surfer). There are only 3 main ones that you need. In order of importance here they are:
<title>Your sites title</title>
<meta name="description" content="your site description">
<meta name="keywords" content="your keywords">

Meta tags don't hold a huge weighting for how SEs calculate your ranking as they can be filled wih spam. This is especailly true for the keywords tag which is completely ignored by most search engines (but still worth having as some samller SEs still use it). The title tag is the most important by far. Dont spam your meta tags too much but make sure they are keyword rich. You can use SEO Doctor to give you some ideas to start - dont take what it says as gospel but use it a few times to get a good idea of how to write you meta and title tags.

Both the title tag and the description tag may appear in SERPs to show what is on your site. Have a look and you will likely see the title tag been displayed to surfers in SE results on the major SEs and possibly the description tag too. This means that surfers will read what you write in those tags so bear that in mind when you write it.

Internal Links in your site - Search Engines look through your site by following links throughout your site so you need to make sure that your site is well interlinked. You should link all relevant pages together so that it makes them appear more relevant to SEs for the term/s you are targeting. Have a look through some popular sites and see how they interlink.

Also the way you link throughout your site effects how important individual pages are considered in SEs. Being fewer clicks away from the index page will make a page seem more important as does having a lot of pages within the site linking to that page.

It is also important to have a site map as SEs specifically look for this to help them index your site so make sure you have one.
